J. Carrol Naish plays a slimy villain again; this time he's running a casino on a ship and smuggling furs past the Coast Guard.

Coulda done better
The idiotic fights among rivals and poorly written lines not delivered well makes this the film that might have been, but it didn't. It was watchable, but i won't watch it again.

PETA won't be pleased
A battling buddy, musical, coast guard, fur smuggling yarn. In other words it tries to do far too much for a B-feature, and it shows. Choppy editing doesn't help (see footnotes). Fast paced, with less than great musical numbers. Penny singleton (of "Blondie" fame) and J. Carrol Naish do their best with the silly plot. The production values are better than average for a Republic non-western second feature. A mostly glitch-free print is no better than watchable. My three-star rating is a bit of a stretch. FOOTNOTES: This 53 minute version is a second-release studio edit. The original runtime was 64 minutes. Penny Singleton is billed as Dorothy McNulty.
